Former Moss Point City Employees Plead Guilty to Embezzlement

Two former Moss Point city employees are awaiting sentencing after pleading guilty to embezzlement.

Back in January, News 25 Today spoke to Mayor Mario King about the arrests of those former employees, Kenya Bowens and Lakeisha Benton, after special agents from the auditor’s office arrested the two women and charged them with embezzlement

The former city employees are accused of embezzling more than $13,000 from the city’s water department by collecting cash payments from customers paying water bill fines and pocketing the cash they had collected, then voiding the transaction receipts.

Yesterday the state auditor’s office announced both women had pleaded guilty to embezzlement in Jackson County Circuit Court.

Both women are scheduled to be sentenced by Judge Dale Harkey next Tuesday.
