Former MGCCC running back shows off speed at USM

Tomorrow night, Jefferson Davis County High School makes its debut versus Harrison Central following the consolidation of Bassfield and Prentiss. A lot of speed has come out of the former in recent years including five players on the Southern Miss roster.
One of them being T’Rod Daniels who most recently played for Mississippi Gulf Coast before heading to Hattiesburg for his junior season. Prior to his days at Perk, Daniels was around three out of Bassfield’s four consecutive 2A state titles.
His NASCAR was on full display during USM’s first scrimmage on Saturday and Head Coach Jay Hopson is just starting to notice the difference between fast and Bassfield fast. “I knew T’Rod was fast, but when he broke loose, and Curtis got him, I was like good gosh. Cause I thought T’Rod, when he broke loose I said bye. He’s gone. That’s a touchdown. Cause both of them are probably maybe sub-4.3. But both of them are at least 4.35 guys, but when T’Rod broke loose I knew that was a touchdown. And there’s probably only one guy on the football team that could have caught him, and that’s Curtis. And he got him, so there’s a lot of speed at Bassfield. It’s amazing.”
Coach Hop is referring to Curtis Mikell whose nickname is none other than Speedy.
