Former LSU star, Astros 3B Alex Bregman on the Coast
Having played his college baseball right down the road at LSU, Houston Astros third baseman Alex Bregman is no stranger to things that taste good.
So, when he’s not hitting bombs in the show, he’s showing off his Breggy Bomb Sauce.
Tonight, the former Tiger gracing the Gulf Coast at the Shed in Ocean Springs for its annual Steak Showdown.
Bregman says he launched the Breggy Bomb lines of sauce in November less than a month after winning his second World Series ring with a 4-2 series win over the Philadelphia Phillies.
The flavors include a steak dry rub and another one for chicken, barbeque sauces as well as a swamp sauce, and a spicy swamp sauce as a throwback to his time back in Bayou Country.
The two-time MLB All-Star says he channels his competitive nature on the diamond into his new off-season passion. “It actually started in spring training. In 2018, we made a salsa and we fell in love with it and we actually met some pit masters in Houston and we started our own barbeque sauces and rubs, and during the baseball season, you’re so locked in on a routine every single day that during the off-season it’s nice to decompress sometimes, so we’ve been having fun competing doing that and also competing on the field. It definitely does feel like home. We flew into New Orleans today, and every time you see purple and gold it kind of feels like home. Actually, saw a bunch of kids wearing Ole Miss stuff. They were giving me a hard time earlier, so it’s been a blast over here. To be honest, it’s hard to go back-to-back, and that’s what we’re focused on now.”
Bregman says the sauce is already available all over Texas and will be at Rouses and Albertsons in Louisiana ahead of Super Bowl 57.
He reports to spring training in Florida later next month.
