Former Long Beach Mayor Passed Away

Former Long Beach Mayor Glenn W. Mitchell passed away on Sunday at 59-years-old.
Mitchell became Mississippi’s youngest mayor at age 24. He served in the position for two separate terms, one from ‘81 to ‘89 and then again from ’93 to ’97. The former mayor grew up in Long Beach and was active in the community as a volunteer police and fire rescue worker while in high school.
Current Long Beach Mayor Billy Skellie says Mitchell had a lot of charisma and belonged in politics. “Myself and the city administration send our sincere condolences to the family. You know, he was a father, a grandfather, a brother and a friend to many. So we do send our condolences to the Mitchell family,” said Mayor Skellie.
Mitchell’s cause of death is unknown. All funeral services will be private.
