Former Biloxi Shucker Corbin Burnes throws daytime gem
In the relatively short history of the Biloxi Shuckers perhaps no one made it look easier on the mound against AA hitting than Corbin Burnes.
After a rough 2019 season in which the former fourth round pick boasted an ERA over eight, it’s safe to say he’s figured it out.
Burnes taking the bump for the Milwaukee Brewers in a daytime tilt against the Detroit Tigers. And he had it going from the opening pitch, taking a no-hitter into the fifth inning and only allowing that one hit with no walks through seven scoreless innings.
Burnes also had 11 strikeouts on the day, making him the first-ever Brewers pitcher to record at least 10 punch outs while allowing just one or fewer baserunners.
He’s also the first National League pitcher to do so since Max Scherzer back in 2015.
Burnes got plenty of run support from some other former Shuckers, starting with Orlando Arcia going 4-6 with three runs, Tyrone Taylor went 4-5 with three runs scored and three RBI including his first career home run albeit off a position player.
Finally, Jacob Nottingham with his second blast of the season as a part of a 1-5 day with two runs score and two RBI.
All part of a day’s work in a 19-0 win for the crew.
