Former Biloxi police officer pleads guilty
This morning, the former police chief of the Biloxi School District, Paul Cannette, pled guilty to embezzlement.
He was accused by prosecutors for embezzling more than $169,000 from the Mississippi Association of School Resource Officers.
Cannette was sentenced to ten years, but he will only have to serve four of those behind bars and two on house arrest. Cannette’s attorney, Stephen Simpson, made an argument for house arrest and said ‘the stolen money did not have a direct impact on Biloxi schools.’
He also gave the judge numerous letters from former co-workers and family about Cannette’s good character.
Cannette made more than six hundred transactions which ranged from checks to direct deposits to withdrawals from the ATM.
