Flooding damage assessments begin in Harrison County

HARRISON COUNTY, Miss. (WXXV)- The Harrison County Board of Supervisors has declared a local emergency after Thursday’s widespread flooding

Emergency operations remain underway and the Saucier-Lizana Shelter is still open for anyone who needs a safe place to stay.

While much of the water has receded, officials are urging drivers Friday to use extreme caution, avoid flooded roads, respect barricades, and yield to emergency crews.

There have been reports of rescues still taking place this morning and overnight due to still-flooded local roads.

Residents who need assistance or want to report flood damage can contact the Harrison County Emergency Operations Center at 228-865-4002.
