Flooding Concerns in Jackson County
Jackson County has been the hardest hit by the rain so far and the heavy rainfall has put a recent drainage and sewage project in Moss Point to the test.
According to the Jackson County Emergency Management Agency, most of the water had drained out around 10:30 this morning. The area around Community Street and Second Street still saw large puddles in the street and some lawns remained flooded. While some of the residents believe they’ve seen some improvement in drainage since the new system was put in place, they’re still concerned about water quality. Moss Point resident Linda Sellers said, “I mean, this is the same water that we have to feed and make our newborn’s bottle with, you see? This is the same water we have to pay for but that comes out brown. It’s the same water that you can run it in your faucet and you can see the color in it, it’s not clear.”
The new drainage system is paid for with FEMA grants.
