Flood warnings in effect for Harrison County

A weakening Nicholas will continue to impact the central Gulf Coast with torrential tropical rainfall and potential flash flooding through Friday.

In Harrison County, both a flash flood watch and coastal flood advisory are active until Thursday at 7 a.m.

In eastern Harrison County around six to seven inches of rain has fallen since yesterday and more is expected.

Flood warnings are in effect for the Biloxi, Wolf, and Tchoutacabouffa Rivers going into the weekend with moderate flood stage expected. Harrison County EMA Director Matt Stratton said, “Expecting possibly another eight inches of rain here over the next few days. So, roads and driving conditions are something that we definitely want people to be careful with. Folks need to slow their speeds down, allow extra time for driving, and plan for alternate routes. Definitely don’t want to go into any flooded areas.”

Drivers who encounter any barricades or signage indicating the road is not safe need to take an alternate route for their safety and the safety of first responders.
