Flood insurance rating for Biloxi

This year, the National Flood Insurance Program gave the City of Biloxi a rating of 5 for their flood insurance policies.

Biloxi is the only city with a rating of 5 in the state. This means residents who have a flood insurance policy who live in the flood zone should be getting a 25 percent discount on their flood insurance policy. If you have a flood insurance policy and live outside the flood zone, you should be getting a ten percent discount on your flood insurance policy.

The city also passed the International Hurricane Resistant Code, but the discounts for this are not as simple. City of Biloxi Director of Community Development Jerry Creel said, “Now the discounts on the building department rating is not as cut and dry as the flood insurance rating where you get actual percentages. It depends on a lot of factors, but anyone who builds that structure while we have that rating should be getting a discount on their building insurance as a result of the efforts we are making.”

Creel tells News 25 all departments, building, fire and flood are all doing everything to make sure everyone gets the most discounts possible.
