Flag Day in the Midst of Mourning

Flag Day is a time for Americans to recognize the importance of the flag and what it symbolizes.
Members of the LGBT community are waving pride flags higher than ever after Sunday’s shooting in Orlando. The rainbow flags have been spotted at various candlelight vigils, right next to the American flag.
Officials with the American Legion National Headquarters released a statement saying at a time like this it is important for citizens to recognize and remember the unity the American flag symbolizes. Ocean Springs resident Timothy Johnson said, “It represents where we live and what we stand for. Like I said, the flag should represent love. I’m talking about unconditional love.”
President Obama ordered flags to fly at half-staff at the White House, as well as other public and military buildings as a mark of respect for the Orlando victims.
