Flag Day Ceremony at the Armed Forces Home

This is the first time in history Flag Day was officially celebrated at the Armed Forces Retirement Home in Gulfport.
Residents and members of the community filled the seats for a Flag Day ceremony. There was a presentation of colors, patriotic music and guest speaker Deputy Chief Hank Levins. Speakers talked about the meaning of the flag and the history it represents.
Veteran Keith Van Doren was at the ceremony. He tells News 25 the American flag stands for all those who should be remembered in the battle for our freedom. “We should never, never forget out wounded, our killed in action, our prisoners of war and missing in action. Our youth today, you see them in the hospital without legs, without arms.”
Speakers at the ceremony talked about how the stripes on the American flag represent the 13 colonies and the stars represent the states and the founding of our country.
