Fish markets gear up for Good Friday

It’s a tradition millions of people follow: eating fish on Good Friday.

The fishy feast is as much a part of Easter as chocolate eggs and the Easter Bunny. Abstaining from meat on Good Friday is a way to acknowledge and do penance for the death of Jesus.

So, this morning was a busy one for employees over at Desporte and Sons Seafood Market in Biloxi as they prepare for one of their busiest days of the year. Store Manager Frank Menna said, “This is one of the busiest days of the year, if not the busiest day of the year, maybe even better than Christmas, due to all the Catholics down here in Biloxi. Today should be lines out the door. We are looking forward to it. We should sell close to 100, 150 sacks of oysters and probably 30, 40, 50 pints and quarts and 30, 50 gallons.”
