First Quilts of Valor Awards Ceremony

A new group on the Coast recognized local veterans with a keepsake that will last a lifetime.

The Gulf Coast Chapter of the Quilts of Valor Foundation presented five quilts to five veterans at VFW Post 6731 in D’Iberville this weekend.

Honorees at this ceremony included veterans of the Vietnam and Korean wars, as well as Navy and Marine veterans.

Gulf Coast Quilts of Valor Coordinator Gretchen Breland says any one can nominate a veteran to receive a personalized quilt to recognize their service. “We’re able to put closure. Some of them faced harsh realities in war and combat and being wrapped up in that quilt gives them warmth to know that their family and loved ones are always with them and that we’re so thankful for their service.”
