Fire at empty duplex in Gulfport

This morning a fire broke out at an empty duplex in Gulfport.

Around 8:15 this morning, the Gulfport Fire Department received a call about a fire on Virginia Avenue in Gulfport. Seven firefighting units with 21 firemen arrived on scene minutes after the call was made.

Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that a vacant duplex caught fire. Officials tell News 25 that this duplex was under renovation.

Firefighters brought out the arson dog to further investigate the situation. Gulfport Deputy Fire Chief Billy Kelly said, “They were vacant. No injuries to civilians or the firefighters. At this point, we are investigating. There is no power to the structure.”
