Finalists announced for 2023 Boo Ferris Trophy

Each year, the Boo Ferriss Trophy goes to the most outstanding college baseball player in the state of Mississippi.

This year, two of the five finalists hail from Southern Miss.

Starting with Friday night ace of the staff Tanner Hall, who’s picked up right where he left off from his consensus All-American sophomore season.

The right-handed junior leads the team with nine wins, 73 innings pitched, and 78 strikeouts, and is second in ERA at a clip of 2.71.

Also, up for the prestigious award is junior designated hitter Slade Wilks, who has at least double the home runs of anyone else on the team. The lefty slugger paces USM with 18 long balls and 52 RBI. The winner will be announced on May 22nd.

The other finalists are Hunter Hines from Mississippi State, tied for third in the nation with 22 home runs and leading the Bulldogs with 57 RBI.

Hailing from Ole Miss is Kemp Alderman who leads the Rebels with a .377 batting average, 19 homers, and 59 RBI.

Rounding out the fab five is Ty Hill from Jackson State.
