Final days of Gulf Coast Winter Classics at the Harrison County Fairgrounds

Equestrians from across the United States are wrapping up the last days of competitions right here in Harrison County.

The Gulf Coast Winter Classics has been underway since mid-February and held without spectators due to COVID-19.

Despite that challenge and the cancellation of events on Wednesday due to bad weather, the final week of action is back on track with an international hunter derby tomorrow and a grand prix event on Sunday.

Organizers say they’re glad the event was able to go on this year and look forward to events in 2022. Gulf Coast Classic Company President Bob Bell said, “Every year we get a little bit better. We add a few more things to it. We’re looking forward already. We’ve been giving out the dates for the next year’s event to the participants when they check out so they can make their reservations for next year.”

The Winter Classics hopes to welcome spectators back to next year’s event which will run from February 16th to March 27th.
