Fill the Bus school supply drive

The United Way of South Mississippi and the Junior Auxilary of Gulfport partnered once again for their annual Fill the Bus campaign. Today, they delivered thousands of school supplies to students in the area.

Last month, Walmart supercenters throughout the Coast accepted school supply donations to be distributed throughout Pass Christian, Long Beach, Gulfport, and Harrison County school districts.

Organizers tell News 25 not only did they meet their goal, but they exceed it with more than 16,000 items to donate to students in need. Fill the Bus campaign chair Christy Elias said, “By the time I calculated how much money is spent on a supply list, it was anywhere from $100 to $200. So, we’re able to save families that amount of money. We know that these children need these supplies and if we can save parents this money to be able to use it for other back to school expenses then we’re happy to help.”

The school supply drive ran from July 13th to July 31st. You can still donate supplies by contacting your local school.
