Festival of Lights begins at MGCCC Perkinston
The first of December means a splash of colorful light has made its way to the streets of Perkinston.
MGCCC’s Festival of Lights kicked off this evening on campus, although in a slightly different fashion due to COVID-19.
Gone this year are the vendors and activities of year’s past, but new this year is a local radio station featuring Christmas music from the college’s choir that people can tune in to while driving among the lights.
Both faculty and students say they’re glad to continue this tradition in the midst of challenging times. MGCCC Perkinston Campus Vice President Dr. Ladd Taylor said, “What better way to come out and kind of get away from some of those stresses and challenges that COVID brings and enjoy just family fun enjoying Christmas lights.”
MGCCC Sophomore Jaylen Jackson said, “It gives us some spirit in spite of everything we’re going through right now, so it gives us something to look forward to, something to make us feel the Christmas spirit.”
The light display runs every night throughout the holiday season so there’s still plenty of time to take in the sights.
