Feed the Needy on Christmas Day
Christmas Day was a day of giving back for many.
Gulf Coast Public Safety has fed the needy for the past 28 years on holidays. Monday it was time they continue the tradition.
Biloxi, D’Iberville, Gulfport, Long Beach, and Pass Christian police departments as well as the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department have been teaming up to deliver hot meals to the less fortunate on Christmas Day.
Feed the Needy is funded by donations and volunteers only. What started out as a project feeding only a few people now provides for approximately 5,000 residents. Feed the Needy Organizer Jimmy Johnson said, “It went great today. We had about two thousand meals and had about 800 volunteers here this morning. It’s surprising to see the number of people that come here that are all over. Children that are two, three, four years old, people in wheel chairs, people on walkers, church groups, boy scout groups.”
Johnson tells News 25 that the day would not be possible without the volunteers who decided to distribute food to those in need on Christmas Day.
