‘Fearlessly Me’ program

One teacher at Three River Elementary is teaching girls how to embrace and love who they are through a new program called ‘Fearlessly Me.’

The program meets twice a month and they focus on a different theme each month like compassion, family, defining yourself and setting goals.

In January, they are focusing on self-care. This morning, an instructor from Shanti Yoga of Gulfport held three sessions to explain how yoga can help the students by boosting their strength, flexibility, and concentration while reducing stress.

Another part of the program is that each girl has to complete a community project. Social worker Nicole Miller said, “I have a couple of them doing a school clean up every week. They walk around the campus and they clean up.  I have a couple that run several programs at the school. So, we have backpacks that we give away on weekends with food. They run that. We have a snack program for various clubs. I have girls that run that program. We did an art gala in December that raised almost $600 for a local children’s shelter.”
