Fatal vehicle accident and fire at Tradition Parkway

First responders in Harrison County responded to single-vehicle accident this afternoon that resulted in one fatality.

According to Harrison County Fire Chief Pat Sullivan, a vehicle hit some trees and caught on fire on Tradition Parkway around a half-mile east of Highway 67 around noon.

The fire was put out by Harrison County Fire Rescue and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department is currently investigating the cause of the accident.

Harrison County Fire Chief Pat Sullivan said, “This afternoon, around noon, we had an off-duty firefighter with Harrison County Fire Rescue that was driving through the area and saw smoke. So, uh he started checking it out and realized there was a vehicle that was in the woods on fire. It appears the vehicle had left the road hit the trees and was on fire. We arrived of course and the engine companies arrived, and realized there was somebody in the vehicle.”

At this time, the Harrison County coroner is working to identify the individual.
