Fantasy Sports Sites Hopeful for Return

Daily fantasy sports could soon be making a return to the Magnolia State.

Back in February, top daily fantasty sports sites FanDuel and DraftKings both suspended their operations in the state of Mississippi. This was after Attorney General Jim Hood gave his opinion that it was illegal to offer fantasy sports wagering in this state.

Since then, state Senator Sean Tindell and others wrote a bill to make daily fantasy sports legal. Before that bill could pass, House Legislators wanted to create a study committee to see how these companies could be integrated with our current gaming community.  “The really exciting part about the bill is it really allows casinos to take advantage of fantasy sports games in their casinos. Those are the only commercial establishments in the state of Mississippi that will be allowed to use it commercially and so we see that as a great opportunity for our casino industry as well. So, I think the daily fantasy sports industry should be up and running and operational in our state soon,” said Senator Tindell.

After the House study is complete, Tindell tells News 25 they plan to put guidelines in place where both companies pay taxes and registration fees, in turn keeping fantasy sports legal in Mississippi.
