Fallen Heroes 5K

Bright and early this morning dozens of chief petty officers from the Naval Construction Battalion Center in Gulfport came together to honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice.

They took part in the Fallen Heroes 5K to remember 125 chief petty officers who have lost their lives while in the line of duty.

The event started with a ceremony followed by a moment of silence and each mile they ran was to pay their respects to those who are no longer able to serve their country.

Senior Chief Petty Officer Matthew Dooley tells News 25 this is an event they make sure to do every year. “It’s a time honored tradition. We work very hard to honor those fallen and make sure that we are keeping the tradition alive and their sacrifice was not in vain. We make sure we do that by doing events like this here.”
