Ex-Steelers LB James Harrison claims he received envelope after violent hit
Around the same time the New Orleans Saints bounty scandal was alleged to be taking place could it be that another NFL franchise was conducting a similar under-the-table operation?
An explosive comment from former Pittsburg Steelers Linebacker James Harrison is at least raising some eyebrows to that possibility.
During an appearance on today’s ‘Going Deep’ podcast, the two-time Super Bowl champion said his former Head Coach Mike Tomlin gave him an envelope following his most infamous helmet-to-helmet hit on then Browns Wide Receiver Mohamed Massaquoi.
Harrison was fined $75,000 by the NFL for that devastating blow, but didn’t specify what was in the envelope, saying it was “the G-est thing Tomlin ever did.”
Whether Tomlin was giving Harrison a reward or simply covering the cost of the fine is unclear, but the language certainly suggests there was a transaction involved.
Saints Head Coach Sean Payton was suspended for the entire 2012 season by NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
