‘Empty the Shelters’ adoption event begins at HSSM

Are you looking to make a pawsitive impact on a cat or dog in need? Today began the ‘Empty the Shelters’ adoption special at the Humane Society of South Mississippi.

All animals are currently available for adoption for $25 and will continue to be that price until the end of the month. The price reduction is possible because of their partnership with the Bissel Pet Foundation.

The Humane Society currently has around 378 animals in-house with an additional 112 pets out in foster homes. Development Director Katie King said, “We are overcrowded right now so we definitely encourage everyone to adopt if they can. We do not euthanize for space, but we are overcrowded and we’re running out of kennel space, so when you adopt an animal, you are not only saving that pet’s life, but you’re opening up space other animals to get the care they need.”

The adoption special kicked off today with ten total adoptions and will last until Saturday, July 30th.
