Elderly Couple in Ocean Springs Involved in Murder/Suicide
Those who live near the 1400 block of Park Town Drive were shocked to hear gunshots ring out mid-morning and blue lights flashing not long after as word spread that the two elderly people who lived in the neighborhood were dead. Ruthie Perscell, neighbor to the deceased for 12 years, says, "They were really nice neighbor people to live by. I’ve lived here 12 years and I haven’t had any trouble with none of them."
Police say the husband, 75 year old, Ronald Montecalvo, called 911 just after 10 a.m. Tuesday morning. Detective William Jackson, Ocean Springs Criminal Investigations, says, "A gentleman stated he had just shot his wife and that he was going to shoot himself."
When officers arrived, they found Montecalvo dead in the backyard from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound. Police then found his 75 year old wife, Jesusa Montecalvo, in bed, also dead with a gunshot wound to the head. While police are not releasing any details about a suicide note left by the husband, the Montecalvos’ neighbors are still reeling with shock. Perscell also says, "The people around here are all friendly, nobody around here gets involved with stuff. It’s a nice neighborhood to live in."
While the investigation is still ongoing, the facts have led the Ocean Springs Police to believe that this was indeed a murder/suicide, but they’re still asking for anyone with any information to please call them. Jackson closes, "Anybody with any information, please contact Ocean Springs Police Department at (228) 875-2211 or contact Crime Stoppers."
There is no official word yet on a motive behind the possible murder/suicide, but police believe health issues may have led to Tuesday’s tragic events. Police are still investigating the incident.
