Eight-year-old hit by car while waiting at the bus stop in Vancleave

An eight-year-old Vancleave girl is recovering after being hit by a car while waiting at a bus stop this morning.

The bus was stopped with flashing lights in the eastbound lane as the child was crossing the westbound lane of Jim Ramsey Road to get on the bus.

According to Sheriff Mike Ezell, that’s when a Nissan car hit the child.

The child was taken to Ocean Springs Hospital where she was treated for a broken arm and a broken leg.

Sheriff Ezell tells News 25 no charges have been brought on the driver at this time. “The driver of the car is cooperating fully with the sheriff’s office. The driver did not appear to have any sort of impairment or anything like that, but we are investigating and taking all the necessary precautions just to make sure.”

The child is expected to make a full recovery. The investigation remains ongoing.
