East Central High School class of 2021 graduates at the Coast Coliseum

East Central High School graduated over 160 high school seniors for the class of 2021.

The Mississippi Coast Coliseum is continuing to host high school graduations at full capacity. Until capacity restrictions were lifted, students were unsure if they’d get the traditional walk across the stage.

At East Central High, school staff and teachers worked hard to make senior year special for the graduating class by bring back senior traditions and keeping the school year as close to normal as possible. Graduate Amaya Smith said, “Our school managed for us to have pep rallies. They also let us have our prom and as us juniors from last year, we weren’t able to have our prom and we got to have our senior prom this year, which was awesome. They let us have homecoming. We got to have our homecoming parade. They had everything to where we were able to do it and I appreciate our school staff so much for that. We didn’t know if we were going to be able to be here to do this today and I’m just happy to have completed this chapter in my life.”

Smith will attend Mississippi State University and major in bio-chemistry in hopes of becoming a pediatric doctor.
