Earth Day celebration in Gautier

A variety of Earth Day events and celebrations took place over the weekend with Gautier kicking things off on Saturday.

Jackson County Animal Shelter, as well as other vendors, celebrated Earth Day at George Martin City Park. There were numerous vendors selling plants, pottery, and organic soaps and shampoo.

Children got to play at the waterpark, eat some popcorn, and get special gifts for touring the vendors.

Gautier Councilwoman at Large Mary Martin tells News 25 one of her favorite parts of the celebration was getting her hands on some ice cream from Haven’s Creamery from Lucedale, Mississippi. “They have fantastic things. Their butter, ice cream, and everything is all homemade. When you see the children walking around and eating that ice cream, well, I wanted one too so I went and got me a big chocolate one.”

Jackson County Animal Shelter had five pets at the Earth Day celebration find their fur-ever homes.
