Early Morning Fire Destroys Vancleave Home

An early morning fire leveled a Vancleave home.
The fire broke out around 4:30 this morning. Central Jackson County fire fighters were on the scene shortly after getting the call. Flames were burning out of the west end of the Briarcrest Lane house when they arrived.
Firefighters fought for hours but by 7 this morning, they determined they could not save the home. Fortunately, the couple who lives at the house was not in town when the fire broke out.
Central Jackson County Fire Chief Michael Belton said, “The house was elevated off the ground, which gave it plenty of fuel when it burnt through the floor. That was one of the initial things when we went inside, we had to make sure safety was our protocol here because the floor was in such bad shape.”
No word yet on what caused the fire.
