Eagles under the Oaks golf tournament

This afternoon, golfers teed off for the seventh annual Eagles under the Oaks in Pass Christian.

The charity golf tournament invites those from across the Coast to raise money for Combat Wounded Veterans of South Mississippi, an organization whose mission is to provide a bridge for wounded warriors in their transition from military service to civilian life. This year, over $31,000 was raised which exceeded the goal of $25,000.

Golfers also competed in a hole-in-one contest to win a car. Combat Wounded Veterans of South Mississippi Executive Director Roger Sibley said, “Every year we come out, we do this golf tournament and it grows. This golf tournament actually funds our whole program for all the veterans we take care of for the whole year. Our other donations help with operating expenses and do things other than what our foundation was founded for, but this is the program that actually gets the meats, the nuts, and bolts of taking care of our veterans.”

Since the tournament began in 2011, Keesler Federal Credit Union has helped raise over $150,000 for the golf tournament.
