DUI Demonstration at Moss Point High School

Drunk driving is the cause of 34 percent of all the car accidents in Mississippi. This afternoon, Moss Point High School held an exercise to make students aware.
As Moss Point High School gears up for this weekend’s homecoming, police and school staff are teaching students a hard lesson before the celebrations commence. Authorities say festivities usually bring alcohol and with that DUI’s. Today students learned the nightmares caused by alcohol related wrecks. “Whenever we were in elementary school and middle school we’d have don’t drink and drive and stuff like that. We never got a demonstration quite this where we get to see everything that happens, we get to see the people taken away in the hearses,” said student Courtney Thompson.
For students like Michael Roy, today’s lesson struck a sensitive nerve having had a close friend in a DUI accident."It was sad because I played soccer with him in Pascagoula, it was sad."
While this fatal accident was a reenactment, organizers and student actors delivered a very real scenario. Faces were covered with blood and some of the victims were even taken away in body bags. These details were used in an effort to drive home the real life dangers of drinking and driving.
With police, fire units, the coroner and a funeral home on the scene, officials hope today’s event was a strong warning for anyone thinking about drinking and getting behind the wheel.
This isn’t the first time a demonstration like this has taken place and officials hope it left a positive impact on the students.
