Drive Sober Mississippi
“Drive sober or get pulled over” that’s the message Mississippi Highway Patrol is sending out once again this holiday season.
According to the National Highway Safety Administration, 788 lives were lost because of drunk driving last December. And as gas prices are at an all-time low, many travelers will be on the roads for Christmas. Public Information Officer Benjamin Seibert says extra highway patrol troopers will be out and about looking for impaired drivers and making sure drunk drivers don’t kill your holiday spirit this year. “We want people to have a good time and enjoy their holidays. We just want them to have good memories of this holiday season and not of tragedy. That’s why we’re out here working. As troopers, our number one goal is to lower fatalities. That’s the reason we’re out here.”
Inclement weather is also forecasted during the Christmas holiday. Seibert says to make sure you drive below the speed limit if it’s raining and give yourself plenty of time to get to your destination so you avoid having to rush.
