Dr. Seuss Family Night at Quarles Elementary

Students at Quarles Elementary School in Long Beach have decked the hallways with Dr. Seuss illustrations to celebrate the joy of reading.
Parents and community members joined in on the fun tonight during the school’s very first Dr. Seuss themed Family Literacy Night. Each homeroom provided a different literacy activity or food related to a Dr. Seuss book.
The event served as a grand finale to a school-wide reading competition. Principal Dr. Jan Hansen said, “Well reading is so foundational to life, to success and anything that we do. The more we promote literacy and learning to read and reading to learn and just the absolute enjoyment of diving into a book. Anything we can do to encourage that and involve the students and the parents and the family then that is a great endeavor for us.”
Classes all throughout the school have been reading a variety of books recording each minute. The winner of the competition will be announced tomorrow morning.
