Downtown Howard Avenue Corridor Redevelopment Overlay
Two years ago, Biloxi Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich laid out a five year plan to revitalize downtown Biloxi with newly redone Howard Avenue being the focal point or as Mayor Gilich likes to say ‘returning Howard Avenue to Biloxi’s dance floor.’
Now as work on Howard Avenue creeps closer and closer to the finished line, city council has rolled out a new set of standards for potential developers on the street.
The new standards will be called the ‘Downtown Howard Avenue Corridor Redevelopment Overlay District’ and will help developers of new properties on Howard Avenue to enhance their status, create vibrant atmospheres, and make sure these new developments are pedestrian friendly. Mayor Gilich said, “It streamlines the hoops that you have to go through. So, it’s sort of a special place and we want to do everything we can to make it easier for these buildings and these investors to go to work.”
