Donations needed for Hurricane Dorian relief efforts

Several hundred local volunteers and staff with the Red Cross are on standby waiting to be deployed over these next few weeks.

Officials with the Red Cross tell us that this will be a long-term recovery effort and they will use all of the help they can get.

Ninety-five percent of the Red Cross’ workforce is volunteers and they always need more helping hands. But if you can’t volunteer, there are other ways to give back. American Red Cross Southeast Mississippi Chapter Executive Director John McFarland said, “These responses are very expensive. We are spending millions of dollars a day by sheltering and feeding and other things like that. So, financial donations are very important.”

If you would like to donate go to redcross.org, call 1-800- Red-CROSS or text ‘DORIAN’ to 90999.
