Donating blood during the COVID-19 pandemic

Many blood drives across the county had to be canceled due to the coronavirus pandemic, making the need for donating even more important.

A socially distant blood drive was held in Ocean Springs today in effort to help fill the increasing need for blood in the community. Everyone at the blood drive was required to wear a face mask and everything, including chairs, was spread out to adhere to social distancing guidelines.

Right now, the Blood Center is in need of type O blood donations. Gina Necaise with the Blood Center said, “It is very important because we have had a decrease in our blood drives and not everyone is open or able to do blood drives at this time. So, we are a little limited on where and when we can do blood drives so we need those to be really successful.”
