Dolphin cruises to begin Friday at Ship Island Excursions

Are you looking for something to do with the family? Ship Island Excursions is setting sail again starting Friday and you can hop on board a scenic dolphin cruise.

For 90 minutes, passengers will cruise along the Gulfport Shoreline and keep watch for Atlantic Bottlenose Dolphins.

It’s the perfect way to get out of the house and into some fresh air all while following social distancing guidelines.

Cones are in place to mark a six feet distance between passengers while boarding, as well as tape markings on the boat rails and seating.

Captain Louis Skrmetta says it’s a great time to sight see. “Once we see the dolphins, we zero in on them. We idle and let the passengers watch the dolphins. Sometimes they’ll follow in our wake and right now is a good time of the year to view dolphins. There’s plenty of fish out there for them. So, they’re going up and down the Gulfport Ship channel. About 95 percent of the time we see dolphins.”

Dolphin cruises will run every weekend from tomorrow until October from 1:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.

Crew members will be wearing masks and they encourage passengers to do the same.

At this time, the boats are operating at 35 percent capacity so book your trip now online at

Meanwhile, trips to Ship Island are still closed, but they’re hoping to get back on the water after Memorial Day Weekend in early June.
