DMR closes Area 5 to oyster harvesting at noon Wednesday
BILOXI, Miss. – Officials with the Mississippi Department of Marine Resources announced Wednesday that Area 5 Approved growing waters are closed to the harvest of oysters beginning at 12 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 28, 2020, due to the threat of Hurricane Zeta.
Area 5 Approved growing waters includes the 80-acre off-bottom oyster park south of Deer Island.
The Mississippi Department of Marine Resources is dedicated to enhancing, protecting and conserving marine interests of the state by managing all marine life, public trust wetlands, adjacent uplands and waterfront areas to provide for the optimal commercial, recreational, educational and economic uses of these resources consistent with environmental concerns and social changes.
