[Disturbing images] Spillway opening continuing to kill marine life

The opening of the Bonnet Carre Spillway is continuing to kill marine life in the Mississippi Sound. Just today, three dead dolphins washed up on Coast shores.

Warning these images may be disturbing to some.

A dolphin was found just under the I-110 loop in Biloxi. There were also dead dolphins found in Long Beach and Ocean Springs.

The opening of the spillway is bringing in fresh water to the Mississippi Sound, making it unlivable for these animals.

Moby Solangi with the Institute for Marine Mammal Studies confirmed to us the totals for this year’s dead marine life is up to 98 dolphins and 43 sea turtles. This is the highest IMMS has seen since 2011.

Multiple Coast mayors and other officials met this morning in Biloxi to discuss how they can deal with this crisis.

Biloxi Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich said, “We have got to address this. We, together the mayors, we have gone through some things together, storms and Mother Nature and those kinds of things, and I think us as voices together can certainly solve this thing.”
