D’Iberville Track and Field: Lindsey Kuykendall signs with Mississippi State
One local high school track and field standout is vaulting herself to the next level.
This afternoon, D’Iberville’s Lindsey Kuykendall signed her National Letter of Intent with Mississippi State to continue her pole vaulting career in the SEC.
The senior says she reached out to the Bulldogs in September and since that time has improved her personal record by a foot, from 10’6” to 11’6”.
In April she found out she had been assigned to the athletic dorms before she even knew she had been offered a scholarship.
Originally interested in Auburn as a swimmer, Kuykendall says she’s all in on Hail State as she continues to process the complex emotions of Signing Day. “I mean I’m sweating right now. I was really nervous. It’s just one of those things that’s completely unbelievable. When I opened the first email I did cry. I cried really, really hard. It hasn’t really hit me yet. I’m just incredibly grateful and I’m just happy I get to keep doing it because I was scared it was going to all be over. It’s so crazy, and then all my friends that came out, I’m so grateful. And we’ve been talking about this signing for weeks now. Everyone wanted to come see it. I mean again, I don’t think it’s fully hit me all the way yet, but it’s crazy.”
Kuykendall says she’s aiming to get that 12-13’ foot jump once she gets to Starkville.
