D’Iberville Police Arrest Foul Ball Suspects

Today, October 01, 2015, Chief of Police Wayne Payne announced the arrest of Shane Allen Simpson, 36 and Autumn Paige Burkett, 25 both from Florida, on the charge of False Pretense.
D’Iberville Police Lieutenant Marty Griffin said Simpson and Burkett were arrested after an investigation into information received from investigators from the Daphne Police Department in Alabama indicating Simpson was travelling the southeast selling or pawning fictitious baseballs signed by Babe Ruth with a forged certificate of authentication. D’Iberville Police were able to recover one of the baseballs along with the certificate and were able to verify the items were not authentic. Through the investigation, which is still ongoing, investigators have learned approximately thirteen businesses have been affected in five states with estimated losses in the thousands.
Burkett is Simpson’s long time girlfriend and has been travelling with him. The couple was last known to be in the Baldwin County Alabama area and D’Iberville Police investigators have been tracking the couple’s movements attempting to locate them. On the morning of October 01, 2015, investigators received information as to the couple’s location in the City of Biloxi. D’Iberville Police investigators assisted by the Biloxi Police Department were able to locate Simpson and Burkett and took them into custody without incident.
Lieutenant Griffin said Simpson and Burkett were incarcerated at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center under a $10,000.00 bond set by Harrison County Justice Court Judge Albert Fountain. Simpson was charged with False Pretense and Burkett with Accessory before the fact of False Pretense.
