D’Iberville ESports team wins state championship

One unique team at D’Iberville High School is celebrating today following a huge win.

The school’s Warrior Alpha ESports team took home the MHSAA Fall League of Legends Championship yesterday against Meridian High School, capping of a perfect 20-0 season.

This year marked the squad’s first season and they were one of eight teams of out 26 across the state to reach the playoffs for their category.

Team member Caleb Hickman-Thomas says the championship run has helped him and his teammates learn new skills. “You learn a lot of skills from it, especially the teamwork part. You’ve gotta work, you’ve got to be able to communicate to people what they’re doing right and wrong. It’s all in between.”

The five team members were able to compete against other teams during their season remotely from one location.
