Diabetes Walk in Jones Park
Twenty nine million people in the United States have diabetes and eight-year-old Chyanne Salter is one of them.
Being told you have been diagnosed with diabetes is a tough pill to swallow, but Chyanne is thankful for fundraisers like the Mississippi Walk for Diabetes, a 5K that took place in Jones Park Saturday that helps raise funds and awareness for diabetes.
A large portion of the money raised at the walk goes towards Camp Kandu, which is the only camp in Mississippi for children with diabetes and their friends and family. “The camps are fun. You get to learn about different pumps and stuff and you get to meet new people and learn about their diabetes and how they control it and you take insulin and it’s fun,” said Chyanne.
Officials tell News 25 that they hope to raise at least $15,000 from the walk.
