Department of Health reports 11th pediatric death in the state
Today Mississippi State Department of Health reports an additional pediatric COVID-19 death in a child between 1 and 5 years of age.
This brings Mississippi’s total of pediatric COVID-19 deaths to 11 since the pandemic began.
Unvaccinated children are vulnerable to severe illness from COVID-19. Children 5 years and up can receive vaccination, and booster doses are recommended for children 12 and older to prevent hospitalizations and death.
If you are a parent of children too young to be vaccinated, you and others in your household should be vaccinated to help prevent younger children from exposure.
Protection efforts such as social distancing, wearing masks and avoiding large crowds continue to be recommended as well.
