Daughter Speaks on Father Contracting Vibrio

A Bay St. Louis man is recovering after losing part of his leg to vibrio. He contracted the flesh eating bacteria about three weeks ago.
This is the first confirmed cased of vibrio this year in our area. Today, the man’s daughter, Brandy Miller, sat down with News 25’s Shelby Myers to discuss how her dad is doing after spending weeks in intensive care.
Miller says her father, Ronald Winnert, is now undergoing rehab to learn how to maneuver without his leg.
Fifty-seven year-old Winnert has diabetes and was fishing on the pier next to Silver Slipper Casino. Doctors told Miller it may have only taken a drop for Winnert to develop the virus.
Miller says now they are just hoping for a prosthetic leg in the next few months.
Miller also says she wants what happened to her dad to be a lesson to others to stay informed of what is out in the water.
Last week, the Hancock County Emergency Management Agency issued a warning that the hotter the water gets, the more chance that vibrio is active.
