Cyber Scam Conviction
Nineteen people are indicted and a Los Angeles woman is convicted in a global cybercrime scam first reported in Biloxi.
Forty-four year-old Genoveva Farfan received eight years in prison after pleading guilty to conspiracy to defraud the United States and two counts of aggravated identity theft.
Prosecutors say Farfan is among 20 people, including 11 from South Africa, indicted in connection with a cyber-scam involving losses of $6.5 million.
The conviction comes five years after a Biloxi woman reported she was the victim of a sweetheart scam.
