Cruisers rocking and rolling at the Ocean Springs Sock Hop
Cruisers were rocking and rolling in Downtown Ocean Springs for the city’s annual Sock Hop.
It was absolutely packed with Cruisers enjoying the live entertainment.
Over the three days of Cruisin’ events, Ocean Springs welcomed around 100,000 people.
Cruiser Jeff Stringer came from Magee, Mississippi and says he and his friends look forward to the sock hop every year. “Ocean Springs has that small community environment, the tree covered roads. Everybody is on the roads. It’s just a good time.”
One of the most memorable events during the Sock Hop is the ‘Chick Picks Contest’. Named after former Ocean Springs Alderman Chic Cody, who founded the event.
During the Sock Hop, the chicks wearing the iconic 50s poodle skirts pick their favorite cruiser to win a cash prize and awards.
Chic Cody missed the event this year due to health issues. The Chamber of Commerce wants Chic to still enjoy his favorite time of the year. They’re asking classic car owners to drive by Singing River Hospital in Ocean Springs tomorrow at 5 p.m.
