Couple escapes overnight house fire in Harrison County

Two people escape from their burning home overnight in Harrison County and their trailer is a complete loss. News 25’s Laurene Callander has more.
You could still see smoke billowing from the home off of Diamond Road in Harrison County hours after it was engulfed in flames Wednesday morning. Two people were living inside the home at the time. They woke up around 1 a.m. to smoke filling in their trailer.
They were able to escape through a back door, but still suffered smoke inhalation. AMR transported them to the hospital.
Fire units from Saucier, Lizana, McHenry, CRTC, and the Harrison County Fire Service responded along with AMR and the Harrison County Sheriff’s Department. By the time they arrived on scene, the trailer was fully involved with fire and smoke. There were no working smoke alarms inside of the trailer to warn the residents of the fire.
The neighbors across the street also suffered a loss years ago when their home went up in flames. They tell News 25 their neighbors were there to help and so they hope to do the same in return. Neighbor Emely Taylor said, “Our house burned from an electrical fire and so this hits close to home, but she went out and bought everything that we could possibly need. There was three kids that lived over there plus my grandparents and went and bought everything that we could need out of her own pocket. No one asked her to do that, they’re just really good hearted people.”
The cause of this fire is under investigation. News 25 will continue to keep you updated on any developing information.
